Armadillo Arts

Welcome to my site!

Everyone else has a web site these days, so I figured, why not me, too?

I'll mainly use this site to post projects and events that art students may be interested in. For those currently enrolled in my art classes or members of the National Art Honor Society, they can keep abreast of contests, exhibits, examples of student's work, and some of our very special community projects.

I'm also going to use this web site to express myself. I'll have a page with my opinions on current events, and another page where I'll place some of my favorite assignments that may help a beginning art teacher. I might also include a page that has some of my own original artwork.

I'll update this site from time to time , so make sure to check back.

CALENDAR

Create art. Exhibit art. Compete with art. LIVE ART.

Students are encouraged to participate in art events that allow the student's talents to be recognized by our community.Challenge them to enhance their knowledge of designing compositions which narrate an artistic idea. Some of the events may offer awards, cash prizes, scholarships, and publication in various forms such as calendars, posters and t-shirts.

Many of the events require students to submit written statements along with the artwork. Writing an artist statement about their work enhances both their writing and communicative skills.

Some events require students be academically eligible while other events require students to travel to location of the event. All students are encouraged to focus on their academic goal, which is to earn their diploma. Many students learn to better manage their time and efforts.

Events vary from month to month.
Many art activities may qualify for community service.

Mark your calendars and create art.

NATIONAL ART HONOR SOCIETY

In 1978, the NAEA began the NAHS program specifically for high school students grades 10-12, for the purpose of inspiring and recognizing those students who have shown an outstanding ability in art. The NAHS also strives to aid members in working toward the attainment of their highest potential in art areas, and to bring art education to the attention of the school and community.

Students must maintain a 90 or better grade average in art classes and an 80 or better average in other classes. Seniors involved in the NAHS may be eligible to receive the graduation cords awarded to those individuals that meet the required activities.

Much of our efforts are directed at using art skills to better our community. They will collect funds for disaster relief by sponsoring face painting booths, decorating the campus with art, and helping non profit groups such as the Red Cross, American Heart Association, and designing and illustrating children's books for elementary children.

ART ASSIGNMENTS

These assignments have worked very well for me and my students. I may place one or two assignments at a given time.
New assignments will be placed from time to time. Examples may be provided as well as lesson plans. These are my plans so feel free to modify since they are only suggested ideas and teachers are great at modifying to meet their needs.
